Acts 1:11 "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."
We often talk about life as a journey, if that is the case, then school is where you go to learn to read the map and set the compass. You can’t reach your destination if you don’t know where it is and how to get there. Even with a map, if you don’t have a compass, how can you know that you’re headed the right direction? So graduation from school is a wonderful thing, it says that you have learned how to read a map, and to set a compass, you are ready to begin, and the one question that is universally asked, is Where are you going?
It may be that everyone asks the same question, but they don’t always mean the same thing. Some want to know where you are going next, and others are concerned with your ultimate destination.
Why do you stand looking into heaven?
Many do not know the answer, many are not looking to heaven, many are so consumed with where they are going next, that they have lost sight of the ultimate destination...
Why do you stand looking into heaven?
Because Christ has ascended into heaven, and Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord.
We know that he is seated at the right hand of God
As prophet he sends out people to bring the good news to all nations
As Priest, he intercedes for us before the father, and prays for us
As King he rules and protects the church
Life is a journey, and they are many roads, but only one leads to heaven.
We must daily remember our destination
And while salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, a free gift of God, there is work, not to earn salvation, but to hold on to what we have been given.
And while there may be many things we do in this life, if we keep our eyes on the upward call of God in Christ - we will not loose sight of the one thing that is both our map and our compass - the Word of God in which we have the forgiveness of sins, life and salvation
In school minds and bodies are shaped, knowledge is taught, also the ability to learn. But just because school is over, that doesn’t mean that learning stops.
Just because there are no more PE classes, that doesn’t mean that exercise stops.
And as you feed and tend your body, and work for the things you want and need,
Don’t loose sight of heaven,
Remember that you need spiritual food and exercise for the soul, you need to continue to grow in the Word, and in faith, hope and love.
Keep your eyes always on Jesus, know that he would be with you always, as your good shepherd, guardian, guide, provider and friend. Know that in Christ is peace, life, joy, forgiveness. Don’t loose sight of the greatest treasure that this world can ever know.
