Luke 24:5-7 "Why do you seek the living among the dead? Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise."
Why do you seek the living among the dead?
- because that's where we expect to find him - that is, our experience of life is that we are usually disappointed - things don't turn out as we hope - promises are rarely kept
- because we don't know where else to look - and this is the last place we saw him - because when you get right down to it - we never found Jesus, he found us - even if all it was were signs and reports - the news drew us to him.
- Because we were not listening, or forgot what he said - when he told us of his upcoming suffering and death - we weren't ready to hear it - we didn't want to listen - and now, we can't remember
- Because it is the 3rd day, we expect the tomb to be empty, and we expect that shortly Jesus will find us.
Before Jesus died, he spoke of how He would send the holy spirit to us, who would remind us of all that Jesus had said, who would comfort and encourage us with the gracious promise of God's Word - the forgiveness of sins, life and salavation that are ours because Jesus is Risen.
